Day 18

Today's blog is especially for the Grandmas.
Tuck has changed so much since we got here and has learned some new tricks in the last couple days...

Today he took the garbage from the bathroom, put it on his head and walked around the house for about a half hour, running into everything. It was hilarious!

Don't ask me where he learned this game, it's not one Tylor and I play often.

I took these pics for my Mom! He truly is your grandson. Today he got out the mixed nuts from the snack drawer and sat down for some T.V. and a snack! I honestly did not help him do this, and didn't even know he liked peanuts... he was only picking out the peanuts.

He also just learned to open the doors! They are leavers here, so he can reach up on his tip toes and open and close the doors... not good.
Funny, funny Tuck boy!

Day 17

Our computer is slowly crashing!
We knew it was dieing, but thought it would last through the trip.
Anyways, it hasn't been working the last few days, so if you don't hear from me for a while, you'll know why.
Tylor has to have a computer here for work so we're just figuring that out. Lap tops are around 500.00 more here than the states!

This morning I had another amazing surf lesson. I actually rode down the line and got a few carves in! Big progress for me, it felt so cool. I'm on a board a foot longer than Tylor's and it makes the world of difference... hence, Tylor's amazing!

This afternoon was all about Tuck. While Tylor surfed, Tuck and I played on the beach, and I decided since I've been having so much fun, we would do whatever Tuck wanted to do. Which, unfortunately is not to sit and watch Dad surf.
We chased birds for about an hour, watched a dog fetch his ball (Tuck is obsessed with all animals), climbed over logs, and watched a man catch 5 fish in a row. After each fish was caught and flopping around on the sand, Tuck watched the man throw a big rock at its head to kill it, you can imagine what this does to a little boy... naturally, he wanted to throw rocks at it too!

Fun day for all.

Day 16

I honestly feel like the luckiest girl ever to be here in Costa Rica & to experience this part of the world.
Guess what I got to do tonight...

Yoga in a hut, in the middle of the jungle!

This was a very cool experience. I love yoga to begin with, but this almost felt like a dream.
Michelle, one of our friends here, took me to this awesome yoga hut in Hermosa.
It is definitely off the beaten track, and I couldn't find my way back there if I tried.
After driving up into the hills, you park your car, and then hike back into the trees and all of a sudden you arrive at this hut.
It was something out of a movie; your in the jungle, in a hut, no walls, animals right there, bugs flying around you, and you sweat like you've never sweat before. It was perfecto.
I will definitely be going back.

Day 15

Tylor and I both went out surfing today, separately of course.
One of us had to stay behind and watch the rat!
haha That's a joke... my brother Levi always refers to his kids as rats, so I've started using the term. Tuck is a cute, fun, lovable rat!
Anyways, we could sum up Ty's experience in one word - amazing. He's really catching on quickly, and getting pretty comfortable on his board.
The word to sum up my experience - a wreck! This was the first time I went out alone, without an instructor and it was on Tylor's short board. Which I was told the board would be really difficult for me, but thought I could do it anyways. I figured people underestimate me, after all I'm a southern alberta farm girl! We're bred pretty dang tough.
But I guess we're just not bred for the ocean! I pretty much got tossed around by the waves and every time I would kind of catch something, I couldn't get passed my knees on the board.
Where's Mauricio when I need him! (my favorite surf instructor)
Needless to say, I will keep trying.

Yup, that's me out there... waiting patiently to get rocked by the ocean.

Walking back feeling a little defeated.

Day 14

Super Bowl Sunday!
Just because we're in Costa Rica does not mean we forgot.
We were actually so loyal to our annual Super Bowl Party, we got treats and watched the game in Spanish with just the 3 of us. Typically in Utah we have a big Super Bowl party and eat till we fall asleep.
I was mostly excited to see if our friends Doritos commercial made the cut for the Doritos contest and got aired during the super bowl. Problem, they were all lame Spanish commercials! I have no idea if he won.

Anyways, big shout out to Judy Cooper, now Judy Oler, for giving me the amazing tip on Trits!
Let me tell you, this is the best ice cream treat I have ever had, seriously!
We bought 2, and then Tylor went back to the store tonight and bought 2 more.
Thanks Judy... now my butt will get bigger due to Trits, really thanks a lot!

Watching the Super Bowl, eating Trits!

Day 10, 11, 12, & 13

Kinda been slacking in the blogging area.
Sorry Grandma Jane and Grandma Heather.
Plus, I have like no pics from the last few days.
We've kind of gotten into a routine here, and our days consist of...

  • pool
  • beach
  • food
  • naps
  • surfing
  • bike rides
  • farmers market
  • night swims
That pretty much sums up the last few days.

One story...
I had a fabulous idea, to bike to the "awesome" grocery store a few km away.
We took a taxi the first time and I promised Tylor it was not far. Truthfully, I didn't remember, but I wanted cool whip to make fruit salad with all our yummy fruit from the farmers market.
Bad idea.
We ended up biking a total of 25 mins each way in 90 degree weather!
I sweat like a football player, so by the time we got there I had a perfect sweat line of a bike seat on my back side! Lovely. And like I mentioned earlier Ty doesn't enjoy physical exertion, so he was ticked at me. But on the bright side, Tuck loved it.
We will not be doing this again, and not to my surprise... no cool whip.
The end.

Tylor & Tuck at another surf competition on Saturday.
This comp was girls at the start and they were so bad ass. P.S. Mom, bad ass is a good thing! The waves were anywhere from 5 to 12 feet and these girls were awesome. I was so inspired, dreams dreams dreams.

Day 9

We have been walking for probably an average of 2 hours everyday since we got here.
Out feet are sore!
For those of you who know Tylor, he hates to physically exert himself unless there's a board under his feet. (skateboard, wakeboard, surfboard, snowboard) You get the picture.
And Tylor is a smart guy, if he has a problem with something, he's going to fix it.
So today he came home with the answer to our sore feet...

Banana Bikes! (that's what they call them here)

Heaven.
Now we can get almost anywhere in Jaco in 5 mins, and we have baskets for our groceries.
Don't you love the baby seat? I haven't seen anyone use one of these since I was little, my Mom had one. I think they're from the 80's.
Tuck loves it, he ohhhs & ahhhs at everything we pass.
